Ruby Red - cast aluminum. Ruby Red is a milestone piece. I was experimenting with this technique for a long time and this piece was pushing the boundary on how much negative space I could get and still have a coherent design.
This piece was carved in Petro Bond sand and cast in aluminum. Petro Bond is a loose sand containing an oil and clay binder. It is very challenging to do this kind of work with a non-binding sand.
The piece has a polychrome finish. It hangs on the wall.
