Gypsy Princess
Gypsy Princess is a sculpture I made while I was at the Lyme Academy and was a submission piece for application to the Johnston International Figure Sculpture Competition.
The interesting part of this piece is the head cover, the earrings and the tipping of the head. All of this tells a story. The model was an average young lady looking straight ahead. After I roughed it out I added the hat, earrings and tilted the head. When the teacher came in for the critique she told me this was not the pose. She asked me why I did that. I told her when it comes to my sculpture I like to try to convey a story or a feeling. A girl sitting in a chair was just a beginning point. The model was being paid to sit so her appreciation of what I was doing was not a concern. If her father was paying me to make her bust I would have tried to convey a story he would appreciate and agree to.
The piece has been cast in cast iron and has a black patina. There are no earrings and the skin is modeled loose.
It will come with a thick stone base that is polished on top and rough cut on the sides.
