Previous Lives by Richard Arfsten
Previous Lives - assemblage. This is an assemblage of several faces from previous sculptures I made. When I finished the other portraits I would cut the faces off and save them for some future project. One day I was forced to clean up and threw the faces into a pile without thinking about it too much. I looked at the pile and it spoke to me and said "look here, I am 'Previous Lives.'"
I am a strong believer in setting yourself up for serendipity, looking for the unexpected and working with it when you see it.
This a bronze wall hanging piece. It's a really powerful design that I am very proud of.
