Three Queens By Richard Arfsten
The design starts as a maquette … a model … a 3D blueprint … of the design. It can be enlarged to any size and made of any kind of sheet metal. If you decide to construct in a metal that can be painted, you have infinite color choices. The piece becomes a three dimensional canvas that can easily be changed. This way you and generations to come can be a part of an evolving creative process, if you desire. Simply wash off the environmental grime with a soapy steel wool pad, rinse with water, and let dry. Then you are ready to apply paint using a paint brush or small roller, or dip a twig into the paint and throw it just like Jackson Pollack. You cannot imagine how much fun it is - if you do not like it just put more paint on! It is like changing the color and design of your bedroom walls when trends change.
Some people think stainless steel is the be all and end all, no maintance surface. What happens when some kid tags the piece with grafitti? How do you get the paint off? How about when it is time to clean it from environmental grime? It is pretty hard to run it through the car wash. The cleaning person uses a 3M dish washing pad and voila! The surface has a new set of scratches that do not match the surface. Now what? Ask any house wife with stainless steel appliances how easy it is to damage the surface. At art shows the guys with stainless work always have a polishing cloth in their pocket to wipe off finger prints.
Paint is magic. If it is tagged and you cannot get it off repaint that surface. If the grass cutter people run into it there is a good chance it is not noticeable. My Jackson Pollak finish is extremely good at hiding problems because the surface is visually busy.
This piece has lived in my back yard for many years with many transformations. I love the texture that has been created from the previous compositions. It has become like a richly textured painting in a museum. Fun fun fun!! The size is 9.5'x9.5'x4'
You can purchase the enlarged piece, "as is", or purchase the maquette and you can have a metal fabricator in your area build another copy of it. Or I can have another copy enlarged by a metal fabricator built to your specifications and shipped to you. If you deal with the metal fabricator directly you eliminate my mark up by being your own general contractor. You have also eliminated the gallery commission or the sales rep commission. If if is going to another country and you have it built there you eliminate the import duty and a lot of the transportation costs.
The rights for enlarging are not included in the price of the maquette. I will only sell this macquette if you wanted to make another copy of it. This piece has sentimental value to me. The price of the maquette And enlargement rights is $35000. It will come with a thick stone base with rough cut sides. Please contact me for enlargement details.
