Galactic Science Explorer by Richard Arfsten
Galactic Science Explorer - cast sculpture. This piece represents the little boy sneaking out of the old man in my dream time with Flash Gordon. On one adventure, we met a crew of scientists at an inter-planetary resort casino. Dr. Zarkoff was with us and was talking science with them. After dinner and a few drinks they gave us a tour of their ship and explained what their mission was. This is their ship.
I would like to collaborate with a sci-fi writer that could use some of my work in a story. If anyone is interested in doing that, please contact me. At any rate, making these pieces is a lot of fun for an old man who still has dreams.
This piece is solid cast aluminum – cast in one pour.
I have had expert foundry people tell me I am lying about my whole process because there is no shrink and it will not work as I describe it. My process took me a long time to work out the solutions for all the problems. One of those experts was a guy who owned a foundry supply company that supplied the evaporative pattern industry. He wanted me to give him my 5 years of research just because he smiled at me at a high end art exhibit. I told him “buy the piece and I will let you watch me pour the next one.” He said, "No, you can just tell me the secret." Fat chance mister. He had ten reasons why my process would not work so I asked him to explain how I made the pieces then. He had no answer.
This is a desk top sculpture and comes with a thick marble base.
Sculpture size: 13"H x 23"W
