Gargoyle Pie by Richard Arfsten
Gargoyle Pie - cast sculpture. In the "Barber of Seville" the husband owned a barbershop. The wife downstairs had a meat pie shop. Meat pies in England are like hamburgers in the U.S. At any rate, as the barber was talking to his customer he would try to find out if he was from out of town and if he had a family. If he was a drifter or a single man from far away his razor would slip, the barber pulled a lever so the chair would tip backwards, a trap door would open and the customer would land on the chopping block so to speak. The wife would then make a "special" pie for her and her husband and this was it. Who says I do not have an imagination?
Like all my other work this is a one-of-a-kind piece, the only one in the universe. It is cast in bronze and hangs on the wall.
