Celestial Mastadon by Richard Arfsten
Celestial Mastadon - cast iron maquette. This is a very large animal that was roaming the grasslands of a planet Flash Gordon and I visited during one of my dreamtime adventures.
I think the beast's eyesight was bad because the smaller animal was always at it's side, sort of like a seeing eye dog.
This piece has been living in my garden for the last 25 years. It has lichens growing on it as you can see. There was a time when I was enamored with cast iron and this is one of the pieces from that time. It is extremely heavy, maybe 100 pounds. For that reason I switched to casting in aluminum. No one will pick this up and walk off with it. It has staying power.
