Mustang by Richard Arfsten
Mustang - cast metal sculpture. Mustang was created using the evaporative pattern casting process (also known as lost foam). It is one of my first experiments in this medium. The foam was carved with a hot knife that melts it. It is very hard to work with and gives off toxic fumes. It actually melts the foam before the blade touches it because of the heat radiating out of the blade. You have to be decisive with your strokes or the foam disappears while you are thinking. After a few of these I decided to cut the foam with a band saw and save my lungs.
