Divorce Urn by Richard Arfsten
Divorce Urn is very special to me. It the first one of three sculptures I created of this type. This piece is a land mark piece for me as I discovered a new way to create sculpture. Essentially a lot of pieces of sand blocks are carved, glued together and then molten metal poured into the cavity. You do not know what your sculpture will look like until after casting when you take it apart, you only have a concept idea. It is really exciting when you clean off the sand blocks.
In this case the blocks have created a story in a cryptic language, from another planet that Flash Gordon and I traveled to in my dream time adventures.
This is a desk top sculpture and will come with a thick marble base that is polished on top and rough cut on the sides. This is assuming it will turn up in my attempt to photograph, organize and catalog my art work from the last 50 years.
