Royalty by Richard Arfsten
Royalty - maquette. Several years ago I made a life size replica of King Tut's sarcophagus for a client. I only had a picture of two sides and the dimensions to work from. The client told me to come up with something from my imagination for the other two sides. Well, that started me thinking about abstract symbols to represent kings and queens and family relationships. The result is this symbol of a dynasty from outer space, influenced by one of my imaginary trips with my childhood hero, Flash Gordon. To me it has a little Egyptian feel.
As I am organizing my work to build my catalog I have discovered this piece as well as others have been stolen. It makes me sick because it is most likely a family member who has been helping himself to my work for years. I was never told, never thanked and I now find out he has been passing my work out to others.
The maquette is made from cast Bronze. It will come with a thick stone base with a polished top and rough cut sides. If this piece ever shows up it will be available.
The price shown is for the maquette only. The rights to enlarge the piece are available, but are NOT included in the sale price of the maquette. In order to enlarge the piece, the buyer enters into a contract with me and a fabricator of their choosing, and assumes financial responsibility for all enlargement and installation costs. I would be paid an additional design fee, based on a percentage of the total cost of the enlargement (similar to the practice used by architects). Please contact me for further information regarding enlargement.
