The Bickersons by Richard Arfsten
I used to make a line of small sculptures to sell at Art Fairs based on personal relationships. The forms represent people and how they are placed to each other give an idea of how people interact with each other.
When I was a youngster I lived with my grandparents for a while. There was a radio program that my grandmother used to listen to that was called "The Bickersons." They were an older married couple that constantly fought with each other. Pick, pick, pick, just like my grandparents were always biting each other. I hated it and still hate to argue with anyone.
When I build my sculpture I do not have a grand plan. I just put together forms that appeal to my sense of design. As I make the piece a story develops in my mind. This piece brought back the memories of my grand parents fighting.
Now that I am old as dirt and am a news junkie this piece reminds me of the politics of the Donald, me me me, there is no we. He is the monster kid in kinder garden stamping his feet and screaming to get all the attention.
This maquette will come with a thick stone base that is polished on top and rough cut on the sides.
This is a solid cast aluminum maquette, edition of one. The rights to enlarge the design are available, but are NOT included in the sale price of the maquette used as a desk top sculpture. Please contact me for further information regarding enlargement or click on the above "About the Maquettes" for more details.
